I really enjoyed watching the presentation. Thank you for the education and I will be looking forward to subsequent ones. Now to my question, will the pain be experienced only during mensturation and also if the intolerable pain is experienced during some periods(5/12)and not all, should one be alarmed ?

    1. Dr Nana Amoakowaa Poku

Thank you, Jayne for your question. Pain during menstruation is one of the common symptoms of endometriosis , however, if you’re experiencing general pelvic pain, pelvic pain during intercourse or bowel movements, then it is advisable to get checked. Additionally, if you’re experiencing episodes of intolerable pain during your menstrual period, you should also visit the hospital for work up.

Please is there no medicine that can help?

    1. Dr Nana Amoakowaa Poku

Thank you for your question, Oyet. Yes, there are some medications that can help relieve symptoms associated with endometriosis such as the pelvic pain and increased bleeding, however, medications are not a definitive treatment and symptoms may return when they are ceased.

  4. Imelda

What are the risk factors of endometriosis?

    1. Dr Nana Amoakowaa Poku

Hello Imelda, some of the risk factors for endometriosis include family history, that is, having a sister or a mother who has been diagnosed with endometriosis. Starting your period at an early age (early menarche), increasing age of menopause, alcohol use, long duration of menstrual cycles (>7 days) and short intervals between cycles (<27 days)

  5. Imelda

Is there a genetic link or association with endometriosis ?
