As Medical Director of the Superior Medical Center, I want to use this opportunity to talk to my colleagues doctors, nurses, and other paramedics.
I appeal to those of you who have already trained and are working abroad to come back home.
Only Ghanaians can build Ghana.
The Americans won’t build Ghana.
No other person will build Ghana.
Ghanaians have to build Ghana.
Those colleagues of mine who are leaving the country to go and specialize and add value to their lives. I commend you but make sure that you determine within yourself that you will come back. Only Ghanaians can build Ghana.
At the start of our practice here in 1990, we had a slogan that said Kick the brain drain, Join the Brain Gain When Ghanaians return with their expertise and their skills, they are joining the brain gain.
When they leave Ghana with their brains and their expertise, they are joining the brain drain and I will repeat it again. Only Ghanaians can build Ghana, so I encourage doctors and nurses, especially those of you who have already trained to stay.
In the 30 years since I returned from America in 1990, I’ve seen improvement in maternal mortality, infant mortality, and neonatal mortality. Even Life Expectancy has improved because those doctors who stayed in Ghana braved the situation, economic and environmental to stay here and to work and that is why we have moved our country to this level. So if you are abroad I’m appealing to you to come and let’s build Ghana.
